Topics Covered in 8th Grade U.S. History
Unit One: Presidents 1-24
In this unit students will be introduced to the lives of George Washington to Grover Cleveland. Learning activities include exploring early lives, their
presidency, and they role each president played in the development of the United States.
Unit Two: Early American Wars and Conflicts
This unit will allow students to focus on the struggles faced by Americans during our early wars. Activities will include focusing on how the conflict started events during the conflict, and the impact in had socially and economically on the Unites States. The conflicts discussed will range from the
American Revolution to the Spanish American War.
Unit Three: Constitution
This unit is geared to help student understand and learn how our government came to be and how it works. The will focus on the areas of federal
government, Illinois government, and local government.
Unit Four: Economics and Current Events
This Unit will focus on introducing economic terms and concepts with an emphasis on U.S. History. We was also cover the impact that U.S. History has on current issues today.
Unit Five: Social Change and Minorities
This unit will discuss the social and political changes that occurred during the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will discuss the Progressive Era, Roaring Twenties, Depression, the events of the 1950s, the Civil Rights Era, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Unit Six: Presidents 20-44:
This unit is designed to discuss the events of the presidents from William McKinley to Barack Obama. It will cover their life before, during, and after their presidency, along with social and political events that shaped their presidency.
Unit Seven: Wars from 1900 to Present
This unit will allow students to discuss the wars and conflicts that take place from 1900 on. The discussions and activities will discuss conflicts ranging from World War One, World War Two, Korea, Vietnam/Counter Culture, and finally the War on Terror.
Unit Eight: Economics and Current Events
This unit will focus on financial literacy, financial crisis, and current events
